USS George Washington conducts flight operations against Iran

USS George Washington: USS George Washington is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in the United States Navy. It is currently deployed in the Middle East conducting intensive flight operations in support of U.S. military actions against Iran. Reuters was granted rare access to the vessel in the Strait of Hormuz area to document its activities during these missions. • The USS George Washington is operating with Carrier Air Wing 5 in support of U.S. military operations against Iran. • Reuters’ report is based on rare access aboard the carrier and interviews with more than a dozen sailors. • Frequent launches indicate a high operational tempo involving strike, air-defense, surveillance, and support missions. • The carrier has operated near the Strait of Hormuz and Arabian Sea, a strategically important route for global energy shipments. • The USS Theodore Roosevelt is expected to relieve the George Washington, preserving continuous U.S. carrier capacity in the region. • The report confirms active hostilities rather than a purely deterrent naval deployment, making developments vulnerable to escalation around Iran and maritime traffic.
