Nghi Son Refinery secures crude supplies from Kuwait through November
Summary
Vietnam's Nghi Son refinery has secured crude oil supplies through November, primarily sourcing 75% from Kuwait, after experiencing disruptions earlier this year due to the Iran war. The 200,000-barrel-per-day facility, located in Thanh Hoa province, has adapted to process various types of crude oil, moving away from its initial reliance on Kuwaiti oil alone. Although the refinery is expected to supply 2.69 million tons of petroleum products in the fourth quarter of 2026, it is facing a significant reduction in crude imports from Kuwait, which accounted for a substantial portion of Vietnam's crude imports last year. In addition to these supply efforts, Nghi Son is planning a 50-day maintenance shut down in August next year and is seeking partners for potential expansion by 2031 to enhance its oil reserve capacity.
