GlobalFoundries signs five-year silicon interposer deal with TSMC

TSMC: TSMC is the world's leading contract semiconductor manufacturer, providing advanced process nodes and packaging services to a wide range of clients in AI, mobile, and high-performance computing. It continues to invest heavily in U.S. and Taiwan facilities while expanding its advanced packaging capacity to address supply constraints. TSMC's collaboration with GlobalFoundries on silicon interposers will enable volume production of specialized components starting in the first half of 2028. GlobalFoundries: GlobalFoundries is a major semiconductor foundry focused on specialty technologies such as silicon photonics, silicon-germanium processes, and advanced packaging solutions for applications in communications, data centers, and defense. It recently completed strategic acquisitions and partnerships to expand its capabilities in optical networking and physical AI chip technologies. The company has signed a five-year agreement with TSMC for silicon interposer manufacturing to support emerging chiplet designs. Advanced Packaging: Foundries are forming cross-company agreements to scale production of silicon interposers and related technologies amid rising demand for chiplet architectures in AI systems. Technology Expansion: GlobalFoundries is actively expanding its silicon photonics and specialty process offerings through recent partnerships and capacity enhancements to support high-performance computing needs.
