EU judge dismisses Poland's request to suspend Mercosur trade deal

An EU court vice-president issued the order dismissing the interim measures request in the ongoing legal proceedings over the trade agreement. Poland: Poland is a central European country and member state of the European Union. It filed the complaint and interim measures application with the EU court seeking to halt provisional implementation of the Mercosur deal over concerns for its agricultural sector. Mercosur: Mercosur is a South American regional trade bloc whose members include Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. The bloc is the counterparty to the EU trade agreement whose provisional application was at issue in the Polish legal challenge. Legal Ruling: The Court of Justice determined that Poland had not sufficiently shown a likelihood of serious and irreparable damage from the decision authorizing provisional application of the agreement. Trade Process: The EU Council had previously adopted a decision authorizing the signing and provisional application of the Interim Trade Agreement with Mercosur.
