Deutsche Bank becomes first non-Chinese lender to settle yuan in Europe

Deutsche Bank: Deutsche Bank is a leading German multinational investment bank and financial services company headquartered in Frankfurt, offering corporate banking, investment banking, and asset management services globally. It was recently appointed by the People’s Bank of China as the RMB clearing bank for Europe in Frankfurt. This makes it the first foreign bank to receive this designation, allowing it to provide direct end-to-end processing, clearing, and settlement services for cross-border yuan transactions for European financial institutions and businesses. Connectivity: The appointment follows a memorandum of understanding between the People’s Bank of China and Germany’s central bank, strengthening financial ties between China and Europe. Infrastructure: Deutsche Bank will act as a local bridge to China’s payment systems, facilitating access to onshore capital markets and liquidity for European clients. Internationalization: China is expanding its offshore renminbi clearing infrastructure in Europe to promote wider international use of the yuan and reduce reliance on other currencies.
